Danny Watring. Mr. Watring is the Director of Bands for the Grandview
Consolidated School District #4. His responsibilities include the Blue and Gold
Brigade Marching Band, the Symphonic Winds and Percussion, and the Jazz
Orchestra. In 1986 Mr. Watring began his career in Grandview as an Associate
District at Oak Park High School and in the Liberty Public School District.
Under his direction, his marching, symphonic, concert and jazz bands have
received superior ratings at District/State Music Evaluative Music Festivals, IAJE
sanctioned Jazz Festivals, and area marching band competitions. He is the current
vice-president for Concert Bands in the Kansas City Metro #3 District and serves
on the Board of Directors for the Kansas University Kansas City Youth Wind
Symphony. He is the founder/coordinator of the Greater Kansas City Middle School
Solo and Ensemble Festival.

Mr. Watring served as an All-State adjudicator for eleven years, the vice-president for jazz bands in the Kansas
City Metro District #3, and currently serves on the Missouri State High School Activities Association
Prescribed Graded Music List Committee. He is also active as a guest director, clinician, and adjudicator
throughout Missouri and Kansas for concert bands, marching bands, jazz bands and percussion.
Mr. Watring is a member of the Missouri Bandmasters Association; International Association of Jazz
Educators; Missouri Music Educators Association; Music Educators National Conference; Phi Beta Mu; and
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He has been nominated to into Who's Who Among America's Teachers five times over
his career and was recently inducted into the National Honor Society of America's High School Educators.
Receiving his undergraduate degree in Music Education, he has also earned graduate hours in Music Theory
and Composition from Central Missouri State University. Mr. Watring completed a Master's Degree in
Educational Technology from Mid-America Nazarene University in the summer of 2006.
Stephen J. Sampsell. Mr. Sampsell has taught instrumental music for
twenty-four years. He taught instrumental music in Brownsville (1981-82) and El
Paso, TX (1982-1988). He also taught at the Paseo Academy of Fine and
Performing Arts in Kansas City. While at Paseo, Mr. Sampsell's band performed
for the MMEA convention in 1995 and the MENC National Convention in 1996. He
has a BME degree from West Texas A&M University in 1981 and his MME degree
from Sul Ross State University in 1988. Mr. Sampsell directs the Martin City
Middle School 6th, 7th, and 8th concert bands, jazz band, assists with the 9th
grade band and co-directs the Blue and Gold Brigade. He teaches applied lessons to
all district and state band students and is in charge of district and state solo and
ensemble participation.
Charles T. Jakes. Mr. Jakes has taught instrumental music for eight years.
He taught in the Hickman Mills School District (1999-2000) prior to teaching in
Grandview. He received his B.S. ed degree from the University of Missouri Kansas
City in 1999. He received his Masters in Curriculum and Instruction at Central
Missouri State University in 2005. Mr. Jakes directs the high school concert band,
Grandview Middle School 6th, 7th, and 8th concert bands, jazz band, assists with
the ninth grade concert band and co-directs the Blue and Gold Brigade.
Melanie Morrissey. Ms. Morrisey was named head Colorguard coach for
Grandview High School in May of 2008. She comes with a LA Degree from
UMKC and plans to get her masters in education. She has been involved in
Colorguard since she was a freshman in high school and it is her passion. She has
taught colorguard/ winterguard for 8 years.
Michelle Sharp. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education
from the University of Central Oklahoma, Michelle Sharp began her teaching
career in Oklahoma. Before coming to Grandview, Mrs. Sharp taught fifth
through twelfth grade music students in the Washington and Deer Creek public
school districts of Oklahoma. Mrs. Sharp’s teaching responsibilities at
Grandview include Vocal Music at Martin City MS and assisting Mr. Sampsell
with the Middle School Bands. At the High School, Mrs. Sharp oversees the
Drum Line of the Blue and Gold Brigade Marching Band and the Number 2 Jazz
Band.
